Use AI to make your voting plan
AI can turn "I should vote" into a short checklist that fits your week. Your state or county election office has the final word on every date and rule.
Voting takes a little planning: checking that you're registered, picking early, mail, or Election Day, and fitting it around work, rides, or kids. An AI chat is good at turning all of that into a short to-do list. It is not a reliable source for deadlines or rules, which differ by state and can change, so the plan always ends with "check it on the official site."
Tell it how you want to vote
Say which state you live in, whether you want to vote early, by mail, or on Election Day, and what your week looks like. If you're not sure, ask AI to explain the usual options in plain words so you can choose.
Example: "Help me make a simple plan to vote in the November 3 election. I live in Ohio and work 8 to 5. Make a short checklist. For every date or rule, tell me to confirm it on my state or county election website or vote.gov. Don't mention any candidates or parties."
Make a list of things to look up
Ask AI for the questions to check: Am I registered at my current address? What's the last day to request or return a mail ballot? Where and when is early voting near me? What ID, if any, do I need? Then look each one up on your state or county election office website or at vote.gov.
Plan the day itself
Pick a day and time, how you'll get there, and a backup time in case the line is long. Ask AI to put it all on one short list you can keep on the fridge or in your phone.
Things to know
- AI can be wrong or out of date about dates, places, and ID rules. Check every one on your official election site.
- AI shouldn't tell you how to vote. Keep your questions to the how, when, and where.
- Election offices don't text or call asking for your Social Security number or a payment. If you get a message like that, see our guide to checking a scam message.

Questions
Can AI tell me my voting deadlines?
It can tell you which deadlines to look up, but it can be wrong about the dates. Always confirm them on your state or county election office website or vote.gov.
Can AI help me read a sample ballot or voter guide?
It can explain confusing wording in plain words. Make your own choices, and check anything important with your official election office.
Is it safe to put my details into AI?
You don't need to. Your state and the way you want to vote are enough. Leave out your address, birth date, and ID numbers.
