Use AI to write a toast

AI won't know your stories, but if you give it a few, it can shape them into a short toast that sounds like you and fits in under two minutes.

Being asked to "say a few words" makes a lot of people nervous. The hard part is usually knowing where to start and when to stop. An AI chat can help with both: it can pick a simple shape for your toast, keep it short, and help you practice. The memories and the warmth come from you.

Tell it the who, what, and how long

Say who the toast is for, what the event is, who will be listening, and how long you want to talk. Most good toasts are one to two minutes, which is about 150 to 250 words.

Example: "Help me write a 1-minute toast for my sister's 50th birthday dinner. About 20 family members will be there. Keep it warm with one light joke, nothing embarrassing."

Give it one or two real stories

Share a short memory or two and a few words that describe the person. Ask AI to build the toast around one of them. A single true story works better than a list of compliments.

Make it sound like you

Ask AI to use short sentences and everyday words, and to read it back the way you talk. If a line feels stiff, ask for a plainer version. Cut anything you wouldn't say out loud.

Practice with it

Read the toast out loud and time yourself. Ask AI to trim it if it runs long, or to turn it into a few big-print note cards with one line each so you can glance down and look up.

Questions

How long should a toast be?

Usually one to two minutes. That's about 150 to 250 words, or a few short paragraphs.

Will people know AI helped?

Not if the stories and words are yours. Use AI for the shape and the trimming, and change any line that doesn't sound like you.

Can it help with a wedding or retirement speech?

Yes. Tell it the event, your relationship to the person, and the tone you want, like heartfelt, funny, or a bit of both.

Is this free?

Yes. The free version of ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude can do everything here, and our coach gives you 3 free prompts a day with no account needed.
