Plan holiday tips and thank-yous with AI

Make a list of the people who help you all year, set a budget you're comfortable with, and let AI help you plan the gifts, cash or notes.

Every December the same question comes up: who should I thank, and with what? The mail carrier, the hairdresser, the home aide, the neighbor kid who shovels the walk. There's no rule, and a heartfelt note counts. AI can help you sort it out in a few minutes and write the notes too.

Step 1: Make your list

Ask AI to help you remember everyone.

Example: "Help me list people who might get a holiday thank-you. I have a weekly cleaner, a hairdresser, a mail carrier, a dog walker and a home health aide. Ask me about anyone I might be forgetting."

Step 2: Fit it to your budget

Tell AI your total and let it suggest a split.

Example: "I have $150 for holiday tips and thank-yous this year. Here's my list. Suggest how to split it, with a small homemade gift or a card where cash doesn't fit."

Common ranges people use are about the cost of one visit for regular helpers like a cleaner or hairdresser, and a small gift for others. These are only habits, not rules. Some jobs have their own limits: US mail carriers, for example, can't accept cash or gift cards, and some care agencies don't let aides take gifts. Ask the agency or company if you're not sure.

Step 3: Write the notes

A short, personal note is often what people keep.

Example: "Write a warm 3-sentence thank-you card to Maria, my home aide. Mention how she always makes me laugh and helped me after my fall. Sign it from Ruth."

Questions

How much should I tip at the holidays?

There's no rule. Many people give about the cost of one visit to helpers they see often, and a card or small gift to others. AI can help you fit it to your budget.

Can I give my mail carrier cash?

US mail carriers aren't allowed to accept cash or gift cards. A card or a small snack is a common way to say thanks.

What if I can't afford tips this year?

A sincere note is welcome. Ask AI to help you write a few, or for low-cost ideas like homemade treats.
