Use AI to sort your holiday to-do list
You bring the messy list. AI helps you decide what really has to happen, what can wait, and what you can happily skip this year.
From Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26 to the end of December, the list just keeps growing: cards, gifts, food, travel, decorations, and visits. Most of us try to do it all and end up tired. An AI chat is good at the calm part: sorting the list, splitting big jobs into small ones, and spreading them over the weeks you actually have.
Dump it all out first
Type every job you can think of, in any order, with no sorting. Big or small, put it in. Then ask AI to sort it for you.
Example: "Here is everything I think I need to do before Christmas: [your list]. Sort it into three groups: must do, should do, and could skip this year. Then make a simple week-by-week plan from now until December 24, with no more than 4 jobs a week."
Be honest about your time
Tell AI how much time and energy you really have, like "two free evenings a week" or "I tire easily after 3pm." Ask it to fit the plan to that, and to put the jobs with a deadline first, like mailing gifts or booking travel.
Make big jobs smaller
"Get ready for Christmas dinner" is too big to start. Ask AI to break it into small steps you can finish in 20 minutes each, like "make the guest list" or "buy the paper plates." Small steps get done.
Things to know
- AI doesn't know your calendar. Check the plan against your real dates before you trust it.
- Share the load. Ask AI to mark which jobs someone else could do, then ask them.
- It's fine to skip things. The "could skip" list is a gift to yourself.

Questions
How do I use AI to make a to-do list?
Type every job you can think of, then ask AI to sort it into must do, should do, and could skip, and to make a week-by-week plan.
What if my list is still too long?
Tell AI how much time you really have each week and ask it to move jobs to "could skip" or to someone else until it fits.
Can AI remind me of my to-dos?
A regular chat won't send you reminders. Copy the plan into your phone's calendar, a notes app, or onto paper on the fridge.
Is this free?
Yes. The free version of ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude can do everything here, and our coach gives you 3 free prompts a day with no account needed.
