Use AI to plan a week of dinners

AI can't cook for you, but it can turn "what's for dinner?" into a simple plan for the week and one shopping list, built around what you like and what you already have.

Deciding what to cook every night is tiring, and a few extra trips to the store add up fast. An AI chat is good at the planning part: picking meals that share ingredients, keeping the cooking short on busy nights, and writing one list so you shop once.

Tell it about your household

Start with the basics: how many people you cook for, which nights are busy, how much time you have, and anything someone won't or can't eat. Mention your budget for the week if you have one.

Example: "Plan 5 simple weeknight dinners for 2 adults and a 9-year-old. Monday and Wednesday we only have 20 minutes. No pork, and my son won't eat spicy food. We'd like to spend about $80 on groceries. Use some of the same ingredients across meals so nothing goes to waste."

Start with what's already in your kitchen

List what's in your fridge, freezer, and pantry, and ask AI to use those first. A half bag of rice, frozen peas, and two chicken breasts can be most of two dinners. This is the easiest way to save money.

Ask for one grocery list

Once the meals look good, ask for one shopping list grouped by store section (produce, dairy, meat, pantry) with amounts. Ask it to mark the items you said you already have so you can skip them. Check the list against your own kitchen before you go.

Adjust as you go

Didn't like Tuesday's idea? Ask for a swap that uses the same ingredients. Leftovers from Sunday? Ask how to turn them into Monday's lunch. Keep the chat open during the week and treat it like a helper you can keep asking.

Questions

Can AI make meals that fit a tight budget?

It can help a lot by reusing ingredients and leaning on cheaper staples like beans, rice, eggs, and frozen vegetables. Its prices are rough guesses, so check your store's real prices.

What if someone in my family is a picky eater?

Tell AI exactly what they will and won't eat. Ask for one simple version of each meal for them, so you aren't cooking two dinners.

Is it safe for food allergies?

Use it for ideas, not as the final word. Always check recipes and labels yourself, and ask a doctor or dietitian about medical diets.

Is this free?
